How does it feel to do something good? To work on a project that you know will better the lives of people and make the world a better place? Don’t we all have this desire? Getting caught up in the daily routine often prevents us from thinking ‘outside the box’. On May 9th, 10 teams from large organisations presented how they stepped out of their professional routine and worked hard for 8 months to create a sustainable business-case that betters many lives, here in the Netherlands and the rest of the world. Watch the video and see for yourself.

We are FMO ‘Finance for Jobs’ Team and are passionate about reducing inequalities, in particular supporting youth at risk. Research shows that there is 39% of young Palestinians unemployed. Together with World Bank, Social Finance and other institutional investors, we will contribute to decreasing the current skills mismatch in Gaza and West Bank by an innovative finance solution (Development Impact Bond). The project will support 400 unemployed young Palestinians to move into sustainable paid employment in specific private sectors.

Smallholder farmers in Kenya often face difficulties obtaining a loan to support their businesses because they lack the credit history and collateral necessary to gain the trust of financial institutions. We seek to bridge this credit gap by creating an alternative credit score. This is based on data collected through participation in online financial and entrepreneurial training and additional personal and farming data. This ‘new’ credit score will lead to better-informed lending decisions for smallholders farmers.
