Ahold – Revamping African Peanuts

Logo Ahold

UTZ – Future proof cocoa farming

Banner UTZ

Team UTZ: Marieke Lenders, Anne Dullemeijer, Sarah Garcia.

Cocoa farmers are vulnerable to the effects of drought and excessive rain, and lack access to financial services which could protect them from the impacts of crop failure. Providers of weather insurance lack the network, knowledge and expertise in the cocoa sector to access farmers, who would be interested in their services. The collaboration between UTZ and AXA links certified farmers to insurers. The resulting increase in financial security will empower farmers to invest in their farms and in the future of their families, securing their livelihoods and a stable future supply of cocoa.
